Poroshenko's UN Rant

Poroshenko’s UN Rant

by Stephen Lendman

US-anointed Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko is a caricature of a leader - a so-called chocolate king billionaire/oligarch, illegitimately installed in a farcical election.

He’s waged naked aggression on Donbass throughout his tenure, imposed an economic blockade,  insists scheduled democratic parliamentary elections be cancelled, failed in his attempt to isolate Crimea, and blames Russia and Donbass freedom fighters for his high crimes.

His General Assembly rant bashed Russia, repeating tired old baseless accusations of “aggression.”

Ludicrously saying “Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia in the Crimea and Donbas region constitute approximately 44,000 square kilometers (16,989 square miles).”

“A million Ukrainians have found themselves under the occupation. The goal of this war is to force the Ukrainian people to give up their sovereign choice (to) build a free, democratic, prosperous and European state.”

It’s hard believing anyone takes him seriously. His comments are buffoon-like. Facts on the ground are polar opposite his bluster.

He violated Minsk ceasefire terms straightaway. A state of war continues - conflict at a low ebb ahead of likely escalating at Washington’s discretion.

Poroshenko signed a revised military doctrine - absurdly calling Russia Ukraine’s enemy number one, number two and number three, claiming its main threat is a nonexistent “full-scale armed aggression of Russia against Ukraine with decisive military-political goals.”

Saying other threats include “the activity of illegal armed groups in Ukraine” - referring to Donbass freedom fighters rejecting illegitimate fascist rule, wanting them prevented from having democratic rights everyone deserves.

He wants them eliminated, using naked aggression to accomplish his objective, with full US support and encouragement. One fascist regime supports another.

He wants Russia stripped of its Security Council veto power, impossible without its willingness to relinquish a vital tool to check Washington’s imperial agenda - even though denying SC authorization doesn’t prevent its ongoing war on humanity.

Urging peacekeepers in Donbass is his thinly veiled scheme for Western occupation. Russia and area freedom fighters won’t tolerate it, nor should they.

Saying it’s a “useful instrument contributing to implementation of the Minsk agreement” belies his unwillingness to observe it.

Nothing in his address surprised. He heads a ruthless fascist regime, pretending to be democratic. Donbass has the real thing - Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) parliamentary elections scheduled for October 18 as stipulated under Minsk II.

DPR Prime Minister Alexander Zakharchenko said they’ll “take place ‘on the basis of Ukraine's Law on temporary self-rule status of individual districts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions’ in so far as they are not at variance with the constitution and laws of the DPR.”

The Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) plans its parliamentary elections on November 1, following the same format as Donetsk.

Earlier, Poroshenko called them “extremely irresponsible and will have devastating consequences for the process of de-escalation of tension in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.”

He insists they be cancelled. He wants Donbass residents denied democracy, fascist tyranny replacing it. He wants their legitimate rights undermined.

He wants attention on the world stage to bash Russia. Polls show he’s hugely unpopular. Ukrainians rate him poorly in all aspects of his job.

Russia Bombs ISIS

Russia Bombs ISIS

by Stephen Lendman

After announcing it would conduct aerial operations in Syria, Russian warplanes struck Islamic State targets straightaway - in contrast to Washington’s campaign, attacking Syrian and Iraqi infrastructure targets, supporting its Islamic State foot soldiers on the ground.

Russian Aerospace Forces Major-General Igor Konashenkov said:

“In accordance with a decision by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin, Russian Aerospace Forces planes on Wednesday started an operation to deal pinpoint strikes against ground targets of the IS terrorist group in the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic.”

“The Russian Defense Minister, General of the Army Sergey Shoigu, has told his counterparts in the Collective Security Treaty Organization that in the course of the military operation in Syria, Russian warplanes have been attacking military equipment, communication centers, motor vehicles, and munitions and fuel and lubricants depots of the Islamic State terrorists.”

Russia’s upper house Federation Council authorized the operation, acting on Putin’s request - after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad asked him for help.

Admiral Vladimir Komoyedov said “ground attack aircraft, reconnaissance aircraft…fighter-bomber planes (and attack) helicopters” may be used.

The “Islamic State does not have an air defense system, maybe just portable Stingers. (I)f aircraft are used correctly, it is an efficient means of destruction, especially on desert-like terrain.”

Russian armed forces are also being used to protect its Tartus naval facility and Syrian airbases used for strikes on ISIS.

Putin sent the US-led anti-Assad coalition a message. He respects Syrian sovereignty. Assad is a legitimate leader, overwhelmingly supported by his people.

They alone have the right to decide who’ll lead them, no one else, for sure no foreign powers for their own self-interest.

Russian upper house Federation Council deputy International Affairs Committee chairman, Andrey Klimov expects mixed Western reactions to the latest development.

“In the European Union there are many politicians who are unhappy about US activities in the Middle East, which have caused a heavy influx of refugees to the Old World countries,” he said.

“These politicians share Russia’s stance regarding the Syrian settlement. I will be meeting with some of them within hours.”

“But in the West, there are some other personalities, who will be critical of Moscow regardless of what we may be doing in the Middle East” - especially Washington.

Putin expressed great concern about the terrorist threat to Russia. He’s acting for national security reasons and to aid his Syrian ally from US aggression. Presidential aide Vladimir Kozhin said “(a)ll the necessary Russian armaments will be supplied to Syria.”

Washington for the first time in many years is on the back foot. Its policies virtually always go unchallenged, no matter how outrageous.

Putin acting responsibly changes things. Washington fosters terrorism, uses it to advance its imperium. Putin and the entire free world want it eliminated. Attacking ISIS targets in Syria is a good start.

A Final Comment

Sputnik News reported Putin telling cabinet ministers Russian military operations in Syria are “temporary.” He’s not “planning to go headfirst into the Syrian conflict.”

“The only true way to combat international terrorism - and those fighting in Syria and its neighboring countries are just that, international terrorists - is through pre-emption, and fighting and destroying insurgents in territories that are already occupied, instead of waiting for them to come to our house.”

Russia’s direct involvement changes the equation on the ground. Washington had things its way unchallenged so far. No longer.

Russia's Upper House Authorizes Aerial Operations in Syria

Russia’s Upper House Authorizes Aerial Operations in Syria

by Stephen Lendman

Following Russia’s announcement, Syrian media said it came in response to President Bashar al-Assad’s request, asking Putin’s help to fight Islamic State terrorists.

On Wednesday, Russia’s upper house Federation Council unanimously approved using air power to fight ISIS and other takfiri terrorists in Syria - responding to Putin’s request, parliamentary authorization a constitutional requirement.

Putin observes Russian and international law principles - unlike Obama and other US presidents operating ad libitum, circumventing the law, doing whatever they please at their own discretion, ruling like despots, terrorizing nations ruthlessly.

Russian Presidential Administration Chief of Staff Sergei Ivanov explained Putin’s move, saying:

“We’re talking exclusively about operations of Russia’s Air Force, as our president has already said, the use of armed forces on the ground theater of military operations is excluded.”

“The military goal of the operations is exclusively air support of the Syrian government forces in their fight against the Islamic State.”

“I would like to inform you that the president of the Syrian Arab Republic turned to the leadership of our country with a request to provide military assistance, so we may say that terrorism needs to be fought, efforts need to be combined, but it is still necessary to observe the norms of international law.”

“First and, probably, the most important, we are talking about Syria alone, and we are not talking about reaching some foreign policy goals, satisfying some ambitions which our western partners accuse us of, we are talking about Russia's national interests alone.”

Russia intends acting in full compliance with international law, Ivanov stressed, unlike how America operates - by its own rules alone, consistently violating rule of law principles, norms and standards.

Russian operations will be temporary, their timeline and tactics not explained - “for obvious reasons,” said Ivanov, adding:

“(T)he the United States…is launching airstrikes on the territory of Syria and Iraq, and maybe other Middle Eastern States. Recently France has joined the same analogous actions.”

“Australia and a number of other countries are talking about the same thing…I would like to note…these actions are being carried out in circumvention of international law.”

Russia’s lower house State Duma International Affairs Committee head Konstantin Kosachev said “(w)e would not risk getting stuck in a long conflict and threaten the lives of our troops. The operation is aerial only. Certainly in coordination with the ground operation of the Syrian army.”

Media scoundrels responded to the latest development as expected. They’ll be plenty more to come ahead.

The New York Times headlined “Russia Approves Using Forces Abroad Amid Buildup in Syria,” instead of saying only aerial operations are intended to support Assad’s ground forces battle ISIS and other tarfiri terrorists.

The Times claimed Moscow’s move appears “another step toward (its) troops joining the fight in Syria,” citing unnamed US “officials,” deliberately distorting Putin’s intentions.

It misstated Ivanov explaining Russian operations will be temporary - not for “an open-ended period,” as The Times reported.

It demeaned Russia’s upper house disgracefully, calling it “a rubber stamp” body.

The Washington Post headlined “Russia’s legislature authorizes Putin to use military force in Syria” - claiming it “likely complicates Western policy toward” Assad and ISIS elements, failing to explain it represents a potential game-changer, a real anti-terrorist campaign, polar opposite Washington’s phony one, supporting what it claims to be fighting.

The Wall Street Journal stressed how Russia’s move puts it “at odds with Washington…a major complication to Western efforts in the region…”

Moscow’s direct involvement is significant, very much a possible game-changer, indeed complicating Washington’s imperial agenda.

Putin intends confronting its ISIS foot soldiers, wanting them soundly defeated - precisely the opposite of US intentions, supporting them to ravage countries where they deployed.

Iran and Iraq praised Putin’s move. How Washington responds  remains to be seen. Russian Middle East Institute head Evgeny Satanovsky said he’s “not waiting for any reaction from the West, and (he’s) not particularly interested in it.”

“There will be cries, hysterics, then there will be realpolitik and maybe understanding.”

As of now, a whole new scenario is about to unfold in Syria and perhaps Iraq. The ideal outcome would be to mortally wound America’s regional imperial project. The safety and welfare of millions of people throughout the region depend on it.

US and Russia: Geopolitical Opposites

US and Russia: Geopolitical Opposites

by Stephen Lendman

Geopolitical differences between both countries are stark - and irreconcilable because Washington wants it this way, a bipartisan consensus, lunatics in both parties more overtly anti-Russian than their less extremist counterparts.

Regime change is longstanding US policy for almost a century - since the Bolsheviks ousted the Romanovs.

Truman era diplomat George Kennan introduced the concept of containment, calling Soviet Russia inherently expansionist. Cold War politics followed.

It continues under Obama. Putin understands, earlier saying “(w)e have every reason to assume that the infamous policy of containment, led in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, continues today."

Western nations are "constantly trying to sweep us into a corner because we have an independent position, because we maintain it, and because we call things like they are and do not engage in hypocrisy."

His call for Washington to end its Cold War “hysteria,” recognize inviolable Russian sovereignty, and respect its national interests fell on deaf ears.

Relations between both countries are at their lowest ebb since post-WW II communist witch-hunts. Lunatics in Washington risk direct confrontation. The threat of possible WW III was never greater - especially if war goddess Hillary Clinton or a hardcore Republican neocon replaces Obama.

John Kerry claiming “agreement (reached with Russia) on some fundamental principles” belies a deep rift between both nations, especially on Syria and Ukraine, each country charting a different course - Putin good sense diplomacy v. Obama’s confrontational brinksmanship and endless wars.

Take pronouncements from Washington with a grain of salt. They’re not what they seem. On Tuesday, Defense Department spokesman Peter Cook said Defense Secretary Ashton Carter directed his staff to “open lines of communication with Russia on de-confliction” - to prevent policies of both countries on Syria from conflicting with each other.

“The purpose of these de-confliction discussions will be to ensure that ongoing coalition air operations are not interrupted by any future Russian military activity, to ensure the safety of coalition aircrews and to avoid misjudgment and miscalculation,” said Cook.

“We do not want misjudgment and miscalculation. We do not want an accident to take place.”

Washington is terrified about the prospect of an Russian, Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian (and possibly Chinese) coalition to defeat Islamic State terrorists will subvert its strategy to support them - using them as foot soldiers against Assad, bombing Syrian targets, its claim about battling ISIS entirely fabricated.

Opening lines of communication with Russia has nothing to do with softening hardline US policy, everything to do with containment - wanting Moscow prevented from defeating Obama administration policy in Syria or anywhere else.

Russia is providing Assad with weapons, training and humanitarian aid - fulfilling its contractual obligations, in full compliance with international law, polar opposite US policy. Ahead of his UN address, Putin was explicit telling CBS’ 60 Minutes:

“We act based on the United Nations Charter, i.e. the fundamental principles of modern international law, according to which this or that type of aid, including military assistance, can and must be provided exclusively to the legitimate government of one country or another, upon its consent or request, or upon the decision of the United Nations Security Council.”

“(A)t no time in the past, now or in the future has or will Russia take any part in actions aimed at overthrowing the legitimate government” of any nation.

He urged all countries “to respect the sovereignty of other states, including Ukraine. Respecting the sovereignty means preventing coups, unconstitutional actions and illegitimate overthrowing of the legitimate government” - a clear indictment of longstanding US policy.

In his UN address, Putin ruled out use of Russian ground forces in Syria. He proposed international unity to combat and defeat the Islamic State.

An effective bombing campaign is needed working cooperatively with Syria’s military - polar opposite Washington’s phony one, supporting its proxy IS foot soldiers. Russia is willing to participate with other nations.

It fundamentally opposes efforts to remove Assad. Syrians alone have the right to choose who’ll lead them, Putin stresses. Foreign powers have no right to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries - for any reason except in self-defense if attacked.

Irresponsible Russia bashing continues relentlessly. New York Times editorial policy is deplorable, willfully lying to readers, suppressing vital truths - turning truth on its head, claiming Putin’s sensible proposal for international unity against ISIS “could easily lead to an escalation in the conflict, frustrating already-dwindling hopes for a diplomatic resolution…”

Washington wants no diplomatic resolution other than Assad’s unconditional surrender, replacing him with a pro-Western puppet.

The Times irresponsibly claimed Putin’s real aim is to “establish (Russia’s) most important foothold in the Middle East in decades…not necessarily” confront ISIS as top priority.

It quoted anti-Russian NATO commander General Philip Breedlove, saying Moscow “wants to take the world’s eyes away from what they’re doing in Ukraine.”

It wants “warm-water ports and airfield capabilities in the eastern Mediterranean” and Assad kept in power. “And then, after all that, they will do some counter-ISIL work in order to legitimize their approach in Syria.”

Fact: Russia wants peace in Ukraine and Syria. Obama and hawkish generals like Breedlove want endless wars, continued mass slaughter and destruction.

The Times quoted a number of other anti-Russian neocons - no independent voices explaining what readers need to know.

US Central Command spokesman Col. Patrick Ryder expressed concern about Russia launching air strikes against “moderate Syrian opposition groups,” claiming they’re “key to pushing ISIL back.”

There are no moderate forces. Anti-Assad elements are imported ISIS and other takfiri terrorists. Claims otherwise are part of the grand deception throughout years of conflict. Don’t expect NYT editors, columnists, correspondents or contributors to explain.

Saudi Indifference to Human Lives and Welfare

Saudi Indifference to Human Lives and Welfare

by Stephen Lendman

Saudi Arabia is perhaps the world’s most ruthless regime, second only to America and Israel’s partnership, together a true axis of pure evil.

Riyadh persecutes its own population ruthlessly, tolerating no dissent, sentencing victims to death for the crime of truth-telling, partnering with US regional wars, supplying weapons, funding and banned chemical agents to terrorists in Iraq and Syria.

For six months, it’s been terror bombing Yemen, using banned cluster munitions and toxic agents, murdering thousands of civilians, potentially starving millions to death by blockade, preventing enough food, medical supplies and other essentials from entering.

Western media practically ignore what’s happening - Obama’s war, Saudi death squads doing his dirty work, an unfolding genocide of potentially biblical proportions.

On Tuesday, Saudi warplanes targeted a wedding party in southwestern Yemen. Riyadh denied committing mass murder - 135 men, women and children ruthlessly slaughtered.

Hospital officials said 70 women died. Some mutilated bodies were beyond recognition. The previous day, Saudi terror bombing killed 30 Yemenis in a northern village, mostly civilians.

US intelligence selects targets to strike. Washington sells Riyadh terror weapons to commit mass murder. Endless conflict continues, horrific atrocities committed daily, mostly against noncombatant civilians.

The true Yemeni death and injury toll is multiples higher than official reports, numbers exponentially increasing daily.

The Internal Displacement Center (IDMC) estimates around 1.5 million internally displaced Yemenis as of August, plus many more externally. It called dire humanitarian conditions likely to deteriorate further. Conflict resolution is distant at best.

Saudi family members are responsible for protecting the safety and welfare of Hajj pilgrims. It bears full responsibility for the September 24 stampede, claiming thousands of casualties. The incident occurred during the symbolic stoning of Satan ritual.

The death toll reached nearly 4,200. Maybe many more injured will die - victims of Saudi indifference. There’s more if an Iraqi al-Nahrain News Agency report is accurate.

It cited an unnamed European intelligence source saying Saudi intelligence conspired with Israel’s Mossad, causing the deadly crush deliberately.

The aim, if true, was abducting high-ranking Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) commanders and diplomats participating in the Hajj, figures close to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei - including former Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Ghazanfar Roknabadi.

Institute for IRGC strategic studies head Ali Asghar Fouladgar was reported missing - along with IRGC commanders Hussein Danesh, Fo’ad Mashghali, Ammar Miransari and Seyyed Hasan Hasani.

Iranian and Israeli officials haven’t commented. If al-Nahrain’s report proves accurate, it suggests a Saudi/Israeli operation to get information on Iran’s weapons systems from officials knowledgeable about them.

Head of Tehran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization, Saeed Ohadi, reported 239 Iranians confirmed killed, another 14 injured, and 241 still missing - as of September 29.

Over half-a-dozen previous Hajj tragedies occurred. On September 11, a huge crane toppled over Mecca’s Grand Mosque, killing at least 111 and injuring around 400 others.

Saudi officials attributed the incident to strong winds. Indifference to human lives and safety bore full responsibility. Saudi oil wealth benefits royal family members at the expense of its ordinary citizens.

It’s used for regional wars and instability, part of Riyadh’s dirty alliance with Washington and other imperial interests, mainly its own.

Endless US War on Aghanistan

Endless US War on Afghanistan

by Stephen Lendman

America came to Afghanistan to stay. Occupation is permanent. So is endless war.

Washington’s December 2014 ceremonial end of over 13 years of war was phony, a thinly veiled PR stunt - including Obama saying “our combat mission in Afghanistan is ending, and the longest war in American history is coming to a responsible end.”

Naked aggression was planned long before 9/11 - despite bin Laden and Taliban officials having nothing to do with what happened. US state-sponsored terrorism bore full responsibility.

Endless US regional wars continue. So does America’s combat mission in Afghanistan. Obama lied saying it ended.

On Monday, Taliban forces captured Kunduz, Afghanistan’s northern capital, a former Taliban stronghold, after besieging the city for months, embarrassing the US-controlled Ashraf Ghani puppet regime. It promised to counterattack.

Interior ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said Kunduz “collapsed into the hands of the Taliban.” Government forces fled in the face of their advance.

UN staff were evacuated before they arrived. Taliban officials issued a statement online, saying:

“Mujahedeen are not thinking of harassing or deriding anyone but have intentions of respecting and bringing serenity to their lives. Mujahedeen are not thinking about retribution but have come with a message of peace.”

Taliban fighters seized regime buildings, a local hospital, Kunduz airport, and freed hundreds of prisoners. The city is about 150 miles north of Kabul near Tajikistan’s border. It’s a major northern transportation hub.

Thousands of US troops remain in Afghanistan despite Obama claiming an end to Washington’s combat role. On Tuesday, US warplanes struck Taliban positions around Kunduz.

NATO spokesman/US Army Colonel Brian Tribus said “US forces conducted an air strike in Kunduz today to eliminate a threat to coalition and Afghan forces operating in the vicinity of Kunduz.” He provided no further details.

Afghan troops launched a counterattack. Reuters quoted State Department spokeswoman Katy Bondy saying “(t)he situation remains fluid, and we are continuing to follow the situation closely.”

She said nothing about America’s bombing attack it prefers not discussing. It’s hard concealing. US media reported it, providing few details. It’s unclear where things stand at the moment. Battles take time to unfold.

Years of US aggression haven’t deterred Taliban fighters from trying to regain control of their country. Afghan civilians suffer most - victims of US imperial  policy.

Irresponsible Putin Bashing Following His UN Address

Irresponsible Putin Bashing Following His UN Address

by Stephen Lendman

It’s always open season on irresponsibly bashing him - instead of embracing his sensible solutions to major world problems.

Western media are relentless, marching to the drumbeat of imperial regimes they represent, partnering with America’s killing machine - polar opposite Putin’s global peace and stability agenda, respecting the sovereign rights of all nations, urging unity to achieve common objectives benefitting everyone.

Major media in America long ago lost credibility. They’re self-serving disreputable agents of wealth, power and privilege, substituting misinformation and Big Lies for hard truths, turning growing numbers of people to reliable alternative choices for news, information and analysis, impossible to get from sources like The New York Times.

Its editors headlined “Putin and Obama Have Profound Differences on Syria.” They lied accusing Russia’s leader of US aggression in Syria.

They ignored his all-out efforts for peace - criticizing his alliance with Iran, Iraq, Syria and now China to cooperate in eliminating the scourge of international terrorism.

They repeated the Big Lie alleging Russia’s beefed up military presence in Syria, suggesting it intends using military force to help Assad combat ISIS, ignoring Putin flatly denying it.

Times editors: “…Assad’s main target has always been his domestic opposition, not the Islamic State.”

Fact: Responsible editors wouldn’t tolerate this rubbish in their publications - a bald-faced lie, trivializing the suffering of millions of Syrians terrorized by US-sponsored ISIS death squads.

Syria enjoyed peace and stability until Obama launched naked aggression in March 2011, using imported proxy terrorists to do his dirty work - notably Islamic State fighters, a US creation, not a force that arose on its own.

It couldn’t exist without US support - supplying funding, weapons, training and direction. The vast majority of these terrorists aren’t Syrians, imported from scores of regional and other countries, notably European ones.

Times editors accepted Obama’s Big Lie claiming Assad “reacted to peaceful protests by escalating repression and killing that, in turn, created the environment for the current strife.”

Fact: So-called “peaceful protests” were US-instigated violence, aimed at toppling Assad, similar to schemes Washington uses to replace numerous independent governments with ones it controls.

Times editors support US imperial wars, its efforts to replace all independent leaders, including Assad - ignoring his overwhelming popular support and the right of Syrians to choose their own leader, free from outside interference.

The Times mocked Putin’s sensible proposal for “a genuinely broad international coalition” to fight Islamic State terrorists. Its editors absurdly claimed his intent is “to supplant the American-led coalition that has been bombing Islamic State militants for over a year…”

Fact: Washington and complicit partners support Islamic State terrorists, attacking Syrian infrastructure targets, systematically destroying the country along with its proxy ground force, part of the strategy to topple its government.

Times editors: “Putin…has no particular strategy to contain the Syrian conflict.”

Fact: He has the only sensible one - international unity to combat ISIS, easily defeated without Western and regional support.

Times editors: “Obama…did not create this catastrophe…”

Fact: He bears full responsibility for naked aggression against a non-threatening country - the supreme crime against peace.

Washington Post editors said Putin and Obama are wrong on Syria. They lied claiming Putin “boldly deployed troops and planes on behalf of Syria’s bloodstained dictatorship.”

They urged nations to reject his sensible plan to combat ISIS, the only way to defeat it. They ignored Obama’s full responsibility for inciting violence, followed by US naked aggression using imported death squads, blaming Assad for his crimes.

They praised Obama’s litany of lies in his deplorable UN address. They criticized his weak effort to topple Assad - with no “strategy…to counter Mr. Putin…”

Wall Street Journal editors took issue with Obama not being more aggressive than already. Endless devastating wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Donbass and Yemen aren’t enough.

They want them escalated, likely more launched, perhaps against Iran, Russia and China. They’re terrified about the prospect of an effective Russian, Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian alliance to combat ISIS, exposing US efforts as phony.

They claim “(t)he Putin-Tehran goal in Syria is part of a strategy to build an arc of influence that extends from Western Afghanistan through the Eastern Mediterranean…to isolate US allies in Kurdish Iraq and Israel, while forcing the Sunni Arabs to accommodate the Shiite-Russian alliance or face internal agitation and perhaps external conflict.”

They ignore Putin and Iran’s genuine interest in restoring peace and stability to a troubled region - because of America’s endless wars of aggression, its orgy of violence, a policy of continued mass slaughter and destruction.

Journal editors are notorious Putin bashers. They hammer Obama for not being more aggressive than already. Their strategy for world peace is total war - an agenda for ending life on earth.

Dueling Ideologies in New York: Putin v. Obama

Dueling Ideologies in New York: Putin v. Obama

by Stephen Lendman

Obama addresses make painful listening. He represents ruthless US ambitions to rule the world - even at the risk of destroying it.

His remarks at all times reflect willful deception, entirely lacking truth, candor and straightforwardness. He’s a shameless demagogue, a con man, a disgrace to his people and office he holds - masquerading as a legitimate leader.

His rants lost credibility long ago. His policies speak for themselves. His agenda threatens humanity’s survival. His neocon infested administration deplores peace and stability. His claims otherwise ring hollow. His Monday General Assembly address was true to form.

His praise for UN achievements over seven decades belies its dismal record. Its mandate “to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war” failed to prevent them throughout its entire history - US-led NATO and Israel bearing most responsibility.

Obama ludicrously claimed “unparalleled advances in human liberty and prosperity…lift(ing) more than a billion people from poverty…constraining bigger countries from imposing our will on smaller ones…advancing the emergence of democracy and development and individual liberty on every continent.”

Fact: Only a fool or liar believes this rubbish. Human liberty and prosperity were never more imperiled.

Fact: Billions of people are mired in poverty worldwide. Half the US population is either impoverished or bordering on it. Poverty in other Western countries and Israel are increasing. So-called “real progress” Obama touts is nonexistent.

Fact: No nation imposes its will more on other nations of all sizes than America, none more aggressively, recklessly, and ruthlessly.

Fact: None wages more direct and proxy wars. None more greatly threatens world peace and stability - none more intolerant of democracy anywhere at home and abroad, none more disdainful of rule of law principles, none more hated for its villainy.

Obama revealed his rage for war, saying he’ll “never hesitate to protect my country or our allies, unilaterally and by force where necessary.”

Fact: America’s only enemies are ones it invents. Endless wars on humanity reflect longstanding bipartisan US policy.

The so-called “threat of terrorism” he hypes often is entirely fabricated. It’s manufactured to serve US imperial interests. State terrorism alone matters - the greatest threat to world peace.

Obama lied accusing Russia of “aggression” in Ukraine and annexing Crimea. He bears full responsibility for ousting a democratically elected government, installing Nazi-infested putschists to replace it, using them to wage war on their own people, ignoring the will of Crimeans and Donbass to embrace democracy, reject fascist rule.

Obama: “(W)e want a strong Russia that’s invested in working with us to strengthen the international system as a whole.”

Fact: Longstanding US policy calls for regime change, replacing Russia’s democratic governance with a US-controlled puppet regime, balkanizing the country for easier control, stealing its vast resources, exploiting its people.

Obama: “(W)e joined an international coalition under a UN mandate to prevent a slaughter” in Libya…(W)e helped the Libyan people bring an end to the reign of a tyrant.”

Fact: Obama waged naked aggression against a nation threatening no one, destroying Africa’s most developed country, massacring its people, creating an out-of-control cauldron of violence and chaos. No UN mandate authorized his war.

He turned truth on its head calling Bashar al-Assad “a dictator, slaughter(ing) tens of thousands of his own people.”

Fact: In June 2014, Syrians overwhelmingly reelected him in a process international monitors called open, free and fair. Obama bears full responsibility for endless war and mass slaughter - one of many high crimes on his rap sheet. Assad courageously defends his nation and people. He deserves universal support.

Obama’s claim about wanting ISIS degraded and destroyed is polar opposite his agenda. Its recruits are US proxy foot soldiers, serving Washington’s imperial agenda, supported, not attacked, by Pentagon airstrikes.

Obama: “(T)he United States is increasing the number of refugees who we welcome within our borders.”

Fact: False! Pathetically few are permitted entry. None are “welcome.” Obama and Bush/Cheney bear full responsibility for the greatest refugee crisis since WW II - the direct result of US imperial wars.

Obama’s address was beginning-to-end demagogic rubbish, total misinformation, one Big Lie after another - praising US democracy and the rights and needs of people everyone.

America is a fascist police state, ruled by money controlled duopoly power. Democracy is pure fantasy. Endless wars and exploitation destroy the hopes, dreams and lives of people wherever America shows up - a scourge on humanity, a cancer threatening life on earth.

Putin is polar opposite Obama. World peace and stability are his top geopolitical priorities. No world leader more deserves Nobel Peace Prize recognition. War criminals like Obama nearly always win.

Putin’s address was polar opposite Obama’s - forthright, candid, honest remarks, highlighting the importance of world nations working together cooperatively for peace and stability.

“Russia stands ready to work together with its partners on the basis of full consensus,” he stressed, denouncing rule by force - “a world dominated by selfishness rather than collective work, a world increasingly characterized by dictate rather than equality.”

A world without “democracy and freedom…where true independent states would be replaced by an ever-growing number of de facto protectorates and externally controlled territories” - America’s worldview, accepting no alternatives.

“(S)overeignty (is) the right to choose freely one’s own future for every person, nation or state,” said Putin. Instead of learning from past mistakes, they’re repeated, he explained - with tragic consequences.

Instead of solving major problems, new ones are created, old ones exacerbated. “Instead of the triumph of democracy and progress, we got violence, poverty and social disaster. Nobody cares a bit about human rights, including the right to life.”

“(P)olicies based on self-conceit and belief in one's exceptionality and impunity have never been abandoned.” Endless wars rage.

“(T)he Islamic State…did not just come from nowhere.” Imperial powers use it “as a tool against ‘undesirable’ secular” governments they want replaced.

Islamic State terrorists seek “dominance in the Islamic world. (Its) plans go further than that. The situation is more than dangerous,” Putin stressed.

He denounced “hypocritical and irresponsible…loud declarations about the threat of international terrorism” while financing and supporting it at the same time.

“We cannot allow these criminals who already tasted blood to return back home and continue their evil doings,” he stressed. World leaders must unite to eliminate their scourge, working cooperatively with Syria’s government, he urged.

Claims about Russian territorial or other nefarious geopolitical ambitions are baseless, a diversion from the current disturbing state of world affairs, he explained.

He proposed nations work together cooperatively - “guided by common values and common interests, rather than ambitions,” according to international law, including UN Charter principles.

“(W)e must join efforts to address the problems that all of us are facing and create a genuinely broad international coalition against terrorism.”

The alternative is endless wars, devastating consequences, including unprecedented human refugee floods seeking refuge, millions perhaps heading to Europe, already overwhelmed with numbers they’re poorly handling.

Putin stressed the importance of restoring legitimate governance in Libya, supporting Iraq’s government in its fight against terrorism, and “comprehensive” assistance to Assad - “the legitimate government of Syria.”

He urged the “full and faithful implementation of” Minsk ceasefire terms in Ukraine, ending the bloodshed once and for all - respecting “the interests and rights of (Donbass residents) and respect for their (democratic) choice.”

He denounced “unilateral sanctions” illegally imposed, “circumventing the UN Charter,” permitting only Security Council members to impose them.

Putin addressed other vital issues, presenting ideas and vital solutions to pressing problems - polar opposite America’s destructive agenda.

Russia will work cooperatively “with other countries (to) make the world stable and safe, as well as provide conditions for the development of all states and nations,” he concluded.

Following their addresses, both leaders met privately for 90 minutes. Obama left with no comments. Putin told reporters “(t)oday’s meeting was very constructive, practical and surprisingly frank.”

“We found a lot of common ground, but there are differences as well. In fact, they are known, so there is no need to repeat them.”

He touched on the dismal state of US/Russian relations, reflecting Washington’s agenda, not Moscow’s.

He urges peace and stability, respect for the sovereignty of all nations, a united front to defeat the scourge of international terrorism.

Obama wants endless imperial wars for unchallenged global dominance - an agenda for unprecedented human slaughter and misery.
